But in October 2011, ABI Research released a study, that the Android app downloads has overtaken those of Ios. According to the statistics, Apple app store has 211369 paid apps While android market has just 71801. The downloads for the paid applications for Android are lower than they are for free apps.

While Apple app store depends on app quality, as the company app guidelines states that if you’re submitting junk apps, your app may not get accepted for Ios devices Iphone, Ipad, Ipod etc.
By Munster’s calculations, the Android market has aroound 6,750,000,000 downloads to date, as compared to Apple 18,566,331,811. Those have resulted in respective gross revenues of $341,765,335 and $4,939,611,127 respectively. Percentage wise, paid apps account for only 1.3 percent of Android apps and 13.5 percent for iOS. According to reports, Apple is expected to make $7.3 billion from its App store in 2011. ‘ The overwhelming number of apps on the Apple app store and Android Marketplace,’ says Venture Beat, ‘ might prove too daunting for customers’.
Users are able to spend more money at Apple app store, paying an average of $1.50 for Iphone apps and $6 for Ipad apps by year’s end while apps costing around under $2 account for the large for Android app sales growth. Total revenue from app stores like the Apple app store and Android market place will nearly double to $14.1 billion next year and will reach $36.7 billion by 2015 according to tech research firm Canalys.
The Apple platform is likely to continue to hold a strong position over Google platform when it comes to the breadth and depth of software selection. This is really important because it suggests Apple will continue to attract the best developers in the world, making Ios a stronger software platform than Android. As Apple stay competitive even as Android continues to ship more devices and offer more apps in its market.
