We already informed you that apple has released the iOS 5 Final firmware update along with the release of airport utility in the app store, icloud.com is live with new updates, launched Find My Friends app. But a lot of users are asking to us that how we can safely install and update the latest firmware in iDevices. So, i have made a guide to do so for your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Step 1: First of all, you should Download iTunes 10.5 final for Windows and Mac. You need this version of iTunes that Apple released yesterday, else you want be able to install iOS 5 firmware on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
Step 2: Back up your device. If you have been running iOS 5 beta versions on your devices below, regardless of you being a registered developer or a non-developer, it is imperative that you back up your device first before upgrading it to iOS 5 firmware. When you plug in your device, iTunes will prompt you that iOS 5 firmware is available for your device, don’t download and install it before you’ve created a back up.
How To Create A Back up:
*Note: Your device will automatically back up if you it configured to sync with iTunes on your computer.
- Launch iTunes
- Plug in your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch
- Select your device from the Devices tab on the left
- Right click, then click on Back up
Step 3: There are two ways that you can use to install iOS 5 firmware on your iOS device. If you want to install it automatically then just backup your iDevice and then Proceed to iTunes and simply click on the Update button.Since the iOS 5 IPSW is going to be well over 700MB, downloading it will take some time. So just sit back and let iTunes do its work. Once download finishes, iTunes will automatically upgrade your device to iOS 5.
Manual Installation of iOS 5 Final
For the Manual installation, you just launch iTunes and press and hold the Shift key if you are on Windows or the alt key if you’re on Mac and click on Restore. A new dialog box pops up asking you to navigate to the path where you have saved iOS 5 IPSW. Select the file from there and click on OK. iTunes will begin restoring iOS 5 firmware on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
So that’s how you install iOS 5 firmware on a supported device. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to leave a comment down below.

So i am trying to manually update ios 5. I know how to do it, and have the file, but every time i try, i get an unknown error at he end of the extracting in itunes…. any ideas?
Bonjour !
thanks brother that helped me!
yeah – just make sure if doing the manual update (with shit+update Windows 7 for e.g.) you’ve got the ios 5 CDMA or GSM file suited to your phone (google the leads – they differ) and your’e uptodate on the latest itunes 10.5 of yesterday – still have that error?
You can get fancy with iFaith – but that requires shsh blogs to have been saved for the relevant firmware with tinyumbrella- i still don’t see any ‘way around’ an inevitable itunes recognition of the latest firmware when syncing with it should you proceed with the ios 5 firmware update. It’s always a good idea to explore this tinyumbrella shsh blog stuff (as well as backing up in itunes before doing or consenting an updated firmware installation or platform roll out – the former, shsh blogs -sounds somewhat technical, but is just a way to ‘roll back’ to previous firmwares should you be jailbroken and end up in a ‘bricked’ version of jb – or rather one that ‘sucks’ – like a tethered vs untethered jb – although I reallty don’t see much upside in this latest ‘fad’ of semi-tethered the guys are wasting our time with while we wait for the untethrered ios 5 jb to ONE DAY acfually get out there,,,, after its ’7 beta versions for developers only’ crap….)
Probably a little ‘too miuch sharing is caring’ for your question, Just have time to kill cause I”M IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY UPGRADING from 4.3.3 (untethered jb) to the 5,0 – then I’ll use that dude everythingapplepro’s youtube – he’s pretty jacked with info of relevance – doesn’t fart around explaining at length elaborate details of a holiday he’s on with pool’s and proof of being on a holiday and blah blah blah blah – with a british accent in 3rd grade – where the quality looks like they used on of those projectors attached to an old x86 machine….like you find others out there doing so (i.e. everythingapplepro good quality – not crap – just ask him for better info. blah!)
ok i actaully thought the french dude did help after initially reading your reply- but only upon using google translator to get the following:
Hello!
I have the same problem as Dan.
Unable to install the program despite all the attempts I’ve seen on the net. 3004 is an error and forces me to use 4.1 to return to IREB “boot” basis.
Listed Manual: Impossible too. I wonder if it is not wanted by Aplle for “prévilégier” some user of the new Iphone 4 S … Knowing that their server … not provide. In short, it’s flat. It gives me the taste of breakjailler ca …”
Please enlighten me.
I figured duh- first dude just sarcastic malaka and 2nd dude is imposing the uderscore of knowing that ENGLISH ranks as the world recognized language while FRENCH only comes in as the second official language and that the French dude still knows our tongue -
whatever – just see my post above once these guys ‘authenticate’ or whatever they do – it should address whatever problem you got – although your queston is so brief – it really does leave practicaslly infinite possilbe causes for your error.
FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS you’re using wherever you source them from after sourcing for a while-
shweeeet
aghh- one last thing – check your host file is cool.
google that to know what i’m talking about.
ciao.
(i.e. follow something like http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 to rectify connection errors to the store owing to whatever you guys messed up inadvertedly or otherwise in your host files -see the error checking solutions to the itunes error code IN ITUNES itself – they are pretty comprehensive… no – you’re not going to ask a blank questoin and get someone to copy and paste itunes rectificaiton errors out here – get off your lazy ass and log onto itunes (or just follow the link in ‘more info’ upon recieving such errors and sort it out yourselves!)
har!
