A while back it was reported that Lenovo had a tablet and smartphone in the works. At that time there is no information when the slate and handset would be announced. But today Lenovo announced the four new additions to its line up Android powered devices. The event held in Beijing saw the unveiling of the LePhone S2 Gingerbread smartphone, but with three new tablets under their LePad branding, the LePad 2005 phone tablet as well as the LePad S2007 and LePad S2010 Honeycomb slates. With manufacturers like Lenovo and others making their way to the smartphone market, it is evident that competition is much higher. The product manager of lenovo, Shisunny speaking to the Chinese blog iMobile has mentioned that the handset will break cover during the second half 2012 and the company has planned for a great launch.
LePhone S2
We’ll start with the Lenovo LePhone S2 (Seriously? That’s the best they couldn’t come up to name their droid family?), according to rumors, the LePhone S2 smartphone is 3.8 inches Android phone with capacitive touchscreen display, multi touch, 512 MB RAM and with the resolution of 800×480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.4 GHZ single core Scorpion processor and features a Snapdragon MSM8255 chipset. The Lenovo LePhone S2 runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread Operating system and includes 8 megapixel camera that supports 720p video recording. It will have 8 GB of internal memory and microSD card slot expandable upto 32 GB. The other cool features include 200 GB of free cloud storage and a gesture area below the screen.
The Lenovo LePhone S2 will be priced at Rs. 24,500 ($470) but there is no official word on release date of the LePhone S2 smartphone.
Lenovo LePad S2005
The 5 inch LePad S2005 occupies the same confusing is it a phone or tablet as Dell Streak 5 and Samsung Galaxy Note. It runs on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread on an 800×480 pixels LTPS display, 1.2 GHZ dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. The storage is expandable, but there is no word that how much is expandable. The smartphone comes with 5 megapixel camera capable of shooting 1080p on the back and 1.3 megapixel camera front. HDMI out is also included along with Wi-Fi and a 1650 mAh battery. All this is packed in relatively thin body (9.94 mm) and weigh some 198 grams.
The LePad S2005 has an ultra wide 178 degree viewing angle. There is a bad news that there is no word yet on the pricing of the latest mini tab from lenovo.
Lenovo LePad S2007 and S2010
The Lenovo LePad S2007 and S2010 were arguably the two most interesting announcements by the Chinese company today. The two smartphones differ in screen size, weight and battery,but share the Honeycomb platform and the Snapdragon chipset with 1.5 GHZ dual core Scorpion CPU. Other features shared between 7 inch and 10 inch LePads are 1 GB RAM, 1280×800 pixels resolution of the IPS display, 8 megapixel camer on the back side and 1.3 megapixel camera on the front side and dual mode 3G (EV-DO and WCDMA).
The LePad S2007 weight is 360 grams, has the profile of 9.7 mm and has the battery life upto 3780 mAh battery, while the LePad S2010 weight is 670 grams, has the profile of 9.9 mm thick and comes with 7560 mAh battery.
The pricing and availability of the Lepad S2007 and S2010 are yet to be confirmed, though these tablets run on Honeycomb operating system, Lenovo has stated that they will receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the future.
