Update Samsung Galaxy SL GT I9003 With Alpha Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware

The Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 is the latest in the Samsung Galaxy series which is very much a variant of the original Galaxy S with some noticeable changes under the hood. Now Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 users have a good news that they can update their device with the new version of Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Samdwich Firmware. This is still in the making and this is the first alpha version. Thankful to dhiru1602 who has come up with this Android 4.0.3 ICS version.

Note: This update is not an official firmware version released by Samsung Electronics Ltd. But it is the alpha version developed by third party developers. There is still no OTA on by Samsung will be officially rolling out this firmware.

The Samsung Galaxy SL runs on Android 2.2 Froyo but it is upgraded to Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system. It is powered by 1 GHZ Cortex A8 CPU, PowerVR SGX530 GPU and TI OMAP 3630 chipset.

The phone packs with 4.0 inches SC-LCD capacitive touchscreen display with the resolution of 480×800 pixels and pixel density that is 233ppi. It comes with 5 megapixel rear camera and VGA secondary camera. Other features are touch sensitive controls, corning gorilla glass, touchWiz UI 3.0, 4 GB/16 GB storage, 478 MB RAM, microSD card slot upto 32 GB, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot, bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, microUSB 2.0, A-GPS support and document editor. The Samsung Galaxy SL has the battery life upto 1650 mAh battery.

Rooting Information:

Please note that carefully, this update can only be applied by users who are on Rooted Firmware, if non rooted you cannot apply this update. Once you root the device, the warranty will be void. The only way which you can reclaim the lost warranty is by applying the default update again.

How To Update Samsung Galaxy SL GT I9003 With Alpha Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware

Step 1: Before proceeding the steps, you have to follow two steps:

Root Samsung Galaxy SL GT I9003 with XXKPN Gingerbread 2.3.5

Update Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 with XXKPN Gingerbread 2.3.5

Step 2: Download Android 4.0.3 ICS Firmware from here and Google Apps from here to your computer.

Step 3: Once downloaded, connect the device via USB data cable and copy the downloaded zip files to your internal memory of the phone.

Step 4: Then disconnect the phone from computer, and turn off the phone and enter into recovery mode.

Step 5: The recovery mode can be entered by pressing Volume Down key + OK button and holding both simultaneously power button.If the device boots in normal mode, you need to again try entering into the boot loader mode.

Step 6: Navigate to “Install zip from sd card” and then select “ Choose Zip from sd card” to select the ICS zip file which you have placed in your phone and then you need to select the file of Google Apps which you have placed in your phone.

Step 7: Once you have select the file, the process of firmware update will be started and once it is finished, the phone will be rebooting.

Step 8: If the device is not rebooted, select “++++ Go Back++++” and choose reboot system now for restarting the device.

Note: If you are getting force close errors then you will have to clear the cache from recovery mode by selecting the options “Wipe data/factory reset”, “Wipe cache partition” and select the option of “reboot system now”.
